Woodland caribou on barren lands. Busy harbours and quiet bays. Orchids and carnivorous plants. Sparrows and larks, eagles and osprey.

Stop at the Sandy Harbour River viewpark and step into the heart of the Southeastern Barrens – an open, rolling and largely treeless landscape shaped by glaciers more than 10,000 years ago. Learn a little about this special ecosystem. Then, head out for a closer look. Search for signs of retreating glaciers, hunt for orchids amidst a carpet of heath moss, or fill a bucket with berries. If nature watching is more your style, take a drive down Route 211, or the road to Terrenceville. Keep your eyes open for caribou, hawks, and bald eagles.
